SRI LANKA DESICCATED COCONUT EXPORT UP IN 2016

Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of desiccated coconut for calendar year 2016  substantially increased by 36.2% to 49,200 MT from 36,131 MT at the same time year-earlier.  The shipment was worth USD105.588 million, an appreciable rise by 14.2% from year-ago at USD92.473 million.  However, average traded price at USD2,146.09/MT FOB plunged by 16.1% from USD2,559.38/MT.

The shipment went to 84 countries.  The top 17 contry importers held volume above 1,000 MT and collectively accounted for 85% of total trade.  Leading the pack was United States with 6,070 MT (12.3%), followed by Egypt with 5,836 MT (11.9%), Iran 3,578 MT (7.3%), Germany 2,918 MT (5.9%), Iraq 2,787 MT (5.7%), Saudi Arabia 2,726 MT (5.5%), Pakistan 2,473 MT (5.0%), Spain 1,914 MT (3.9%), Turkey 1,815 MT (3.7%), Kuwait 1,681 MT (3.4%), Netherlands 1,480 MT (3.0%), France 1,400 MT (2.8%), Canada 1,291 MT (2.6%), Japan 1,278 MT (2.6%), Jordan 1,233 MT (2.5%), Portugal 1,164 MT (2.4%), Australia 1,153 MT (2.3%), United Kingdom 1,002 MT (2.0%).  The remaining 67 countries which aggregately accounted for 15% of total sales had uptake ranging 1-453 MT.
