Sri Lanka Desiccated Coconut Exports Down in AprilThursday, August 16, 2018
Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of desiccated coconut was sharply down in April this year. Total at 1,482 MT shrank by 27.3% from April year-earlier at 2,039 MT. The shipment was worth USD4.863 million, down by 16.9% from prior year at USD5.855 million. Average traded price was calculated at USD3,281.67/MT FOB, a substantial increase by 14.3% from prior year at USD2,871.38/MT.
The cumulative January-April export figure at 5,362 MT declined steeply by 51.9% from a comparable year-ago period data at 11,150 MT. Corresponding revenue totaled USD18.764 million to record a deficit of 37.3% from USD29.918 million at the same time year-ago.
Export in April went to at least 30 countries. Key markets were the United States at 244 MT (16.5%), Iraq 174 MT (11.7%), Germany 150 MT (10.1%) and Saudi Arabia 147 MT (10.0%). and Brazil at 102 MT (10.3%). The remaining 25 countries took in volume ranging 1-82 MT and jointly comprised 51.8% of the market.
