Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up Sharply in April

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show coconut products export in April jumped 70.1% year-on-year to 216,721 MT in copra terms from 127,414 MT.  Revenue, however, did not grow as much, rising only 8.7% to USD163.458 million from USD150.353 million on low border prices, notably of coconut oil.


Coconut oil export spiked 78.3% to 123,946 MT from 69,532 MT while copra meal dropped 18.8% to 27,351 MT from 33,703 MT.  Desiccated coconut boosted export by 27.3% at 9,766 MT from 7,671 MT while oleochemicals reduced shipment by 5.5% at 4,879 MT as copra from 5,163 MT.  Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 7,764 (+14.5% from 6,779 last year), activated carbon 7,979 (+37.3% from 5,812), virgin coconut oil 1,705 (-15.8% from 2,024), coco water 9.671 million liters (+49.0% from 6.491 million), fresh coconuts 187,894 nuts (+43.8% from 130,650), Others 12,954 (+62.9% from 7,954).  
January-April export accumulated to 660,841 MT in copra term, topping by a sizable 35.0% same period year-ago total at 489,357 MT. Breakdown is as follows, in MT: copra nil (45 last year), coconut oil 366,992 (271,696), copra meal 111,701 (133,295), desiccated coconut 42,214 (27,477), oleochemicals as copra 13,049 (15,567); coco shell charcoal 22,065 (22,772), activated carbon 27,391 (23,640), virgin coconut oil 6,430 (6,571), coco water 26.318 million liters (25.543 million), fresh coconuts 940,265 nuts (478,912), others 50,672 (32,679).
