Philippine Export of Coconut Products Down in May

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show, export of coconut products by the Philippines dropped 15.1% year-on-year in May to 106,857 MT in copra terms from 125,876 MT last year.  Gross export receipts, however, leaped 34.4% to USD167.760 million from USD124.797 million propelled by high border prices.

Decline in coconut oil export for the most part dragged aggregate figure. Export of coconut oil fell 15.9% to 51,926 MT from 61,743 MT year-ago while by-product copra meal shot up 95.7% to 30,008 MT from 15,331 MT. Desiccated coconut shipment climbed 11.3% to 11,933 MT from 10,723 MT while oleochemicals contracted 47.0% to 5,986 MT as copra from 11,293 MT.

Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 9,457 (+46.6% from 6,449 last year), activated carbon 5,865 (+1.4% from 5,782), virgin coconut oil 1,990 (-0.8% from 2,007), coco water 393,393 liters (+4,211.6% from 9,124 liters), fresh coconuts 48 (+30.9% from 37), Others 30,030 (+34.2% from 22,369).

January-May export accumulated to 602,775 MT in copra terms, a reduction by 17.5% from 730,947 MT at the same time last year.  Breakdown is as follows, in MT: coconut oil 288,631 (382,237 last year), copra meal 110,285 (102,014), desiccated coconut 58,693 (58,374), oleochemicals as copra 53,887 (33,973); Coco shell charcoal 40,320 (34,375), activated carbon 30,627 (31,513), virgin coconut oil 14,197 (8,626), coco water 10.372 million liters (7.901 million), fresh coconuts 130 (111), Others 144,380 (107,931).  Total export revenue was USD878.262 million, exceeding by 36.6% corresponding last year figure at USD642.958 million.
