COMBINED EXPORT OF WORLD’S MAJOR DESICCATORS DOWN IN JUNE
Thursday, September 28, 2017According to collated country data from the Philippines Statistics Authority and Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority, the combined export of desiccated coconut by the Philippines and Sri Lanka slightly dropped by 1.5% to 10,424 MT from 10,588 MT in a similar month last year. Export from the Philippines, which accounted for 77% of combined volume, sharply rose by 12.2% to 8,023 MT from 6,234 MT while shipment from Sri Lanka at 2,401 MT fell by 44.9% from 4,354 MT year-ago. Computed average traded price of Philippine desiccated coconut was USD2,311.64/MT FOB (USD2,091.91/MT last year) as against Sri Lanka product with average price at USD2,968.25/MT FOB (USD2,165.41/MT).
The cumulative figure for January-June this year at 60,986 MT leaped by 16.3% from 52,441 MT in the same period year-ago driven by increased shipment from the Philippines. Export from the Philippines at 45,022 MT spiked 55.2% from last year at 29,000 MT, while delivery from Sri Lanka at 15,964 MT dived by 31.9% from 23,441 MT. In terms of market share, the Philippines was responsible for 73.8% and Sri Lanka 26.2%.
