SRI LANKA ACTIVATED CARBON EXPORT UP IN FIRST HALF 2017Thursday, September 28, 2017
Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of activated carbon rose by 11.6% to 19,823 MT in January-June this year from 17,764 MT in a similar period year-ago. Shipment value at USD38.356 million slightly increased by 4.6% from USD36.678 million. Average traded price at USD1,934.93/MT FOB was down by 6.3% from prior year at USD2,064.76/MT. For the month of June alone, export at 3,508 MT climbed 15.4% from 3,039 MT. Earnings at USD6.657 million likewise gained 11.3% from USD5.981 million.
Export during six-month period went to 46 countries with the United States as top importer at 7,281 MT (36.7%). Trailing behind were China at 1,430 MT (7.2%) and Germany at 1,137 MT (5.7%). Twenty-three countries also took in significant volume ranging 102- 923 MT and jointly accounted for 47.7%, namely Turkey, Japan, Estonia, South Korea, Italy, South Africa, Singapore, Sweden, Jordan, United Kingdom, Taiwan, Indonesia, Netherlands, Russia, Poland, France, Ukraine, Finland, Thailand, Brazil, Iran and Canada. The remaining 20 countries which aggregatey contributed 3.2% took in volume ranging from 2 MT to 79 MT.
