TRADERS WARNED AGAINST ADULTERATION OF COOKING OILS

Thursday, October 19, 2017

A report from Tamil Nadu State in India this week said
District Collector Rohini R. Bnajibnakare has warned traders
marketing adulterated cooking oil with stringent action.
In a statement issues last week, the Collector said that all
cooking oils should be fresh and unadulterated; otherwise,
stringent action will be initiated against the oil companies
and traders producing and marketing adulterated oil in violation
of the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006.
Coconut oil, groundnut oil, gingelly oil, and palm oil
should only be sold in packets, with details on production
date, expiry date, maximum retail price, address of the
producers, telephone number properly mentioned on the
packets. The oil in 15 liter cans should be marketed as it
is and should not be marketed in loose packets. The producers
should pack the oil only in the new cans with ISI
seal every time. Traders should not market the oil in general
names as cooking oil, cotton oil etc. The oil used for
lighting lamps should be sold as deepam oil.
