PERFORMANCE OF PH’S TOP NON-TRADITIONAL COCO PRODUCTS EXPORT IN JULY
Thursday, November 23, 2017Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show over a dozen non-traditional coconut products generated revenue of more than USD100,000 during the month to qualify in the sector’s top exports list. These were: coconut water, virgin coconut oil, glycerin, bath soap, coco milk powder, coco flour, nata de coco, coconut milk liquid, frozen coconut meat, coco diethanolamide, grated coco meat, coir & coir products, and shampoo.
COCONUT WATER , this month’s top non-traditional export product, generated USD9.431 million from shipment of 7.707 million liters. The volume was 2.1% behind last year at 7.872 million liters. The United States was primary destination controlling 4.599 million liters (59.7% of total), followed far behind by Netherlands at 923,476 liters (12.0%). Smaller volumes went to United Kingdom at 431,628 liters (5.6%), Brazil at 398,005 liters (5.2%), China 299,801 liters (3.9%), France 172,563 liters (2.2%), Canada 120,538 liters (1.6%), United Arab Emirates 102,781 liters (1.3%). Fourteen other countries shared the balance of 659,287 liters (8.6%).
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL had gross export receipts of USD9.056 million from sale of 2,360 MT and settled in the second place. Total volume was 9.2% lower than year-ago at 2,598 MT. Market leader was the United States, capturing 683 MT (28.9%), followed by Canada at 359 MT (15.2%), Germany 317 MT (13.4%), Belgium 252 MT (10.7%), Netherlands 212 MT (9.0%), Japan 133 MT (5.6%) and 20 other countries with combined volume of 403 MT (17.1%).
GLYCERIN which took the third spot turned in USD1.791 million from trade of 3,178 MT. Volume during the month was 11.8% higher than the previous year at 2,843 MT. China was top destination at 1,287 MT (40.5%), trailed by Japan at 1,107 MT (34.8%). Limted quantities went to Thailand at 322 MT (10.1%), Malaysia 98 MT (3.1%), Iran 82 MT (2.6%), South Korea 69 MT (2.2%) and seven other countries with combined uptake of 213 MT.
Fourth in rank TOILET/BATH SOAP recorded proceeds of USD1.493 million from delivery of 944 MT which is almost double the volume of the previous year at 473 MT (+99.6%). Indonesia was principal outlet at 645 MT (68.3%). Much smaller volume went to Thailand at 75 MT (7.9%), United Arab Emirates 72 MT (7.7%), Saudi Arabia 68 MT (7.2%), Vietnam 64 MT (6.7%), and eight other countries which shared the remaining 20 MT.
COCO MILK POWDER with turnover of USD1.326 million from overseas purchases of 294 MT (294 MT year-ago) landed fifth. United States was chief destination capturing 82 MT (27.9%), followed by Netherlands at 50 MT (17.0%), Japan 41 MT (14.0%), Germany 39 MT (13.1%), France 32 MT (10.9%) and five others with combined participation of 50 MT (17.1%).
Sixth top export COCO FLOUR had income of USD1.180 million from dealings covering 892 MT (312 MT). South Korea was almost an exclusive market at 602 MT (67.5%). Other outlets were Iraq at 77 MT (8.6%), United States 53 MT (5.9%), Vietnam 40 MT (4.5%) and eight other countries which collectively took in 119 MT.
NATA DE COCO, which took the seventh slate, generated USD1.115 million in foreign exchange receipts. Tonnage was at 1,055 MT (460 MT). Japan remainted a prime destination at 330 MT (31.3%), followed distance behind by China at 156 MT (14.8%), United Arab Emirates 146 MT (13.8%), Taiwan and United States at 109 MT apiece (10.4%) and 10 others that shared the remaining 205 MT.
COCO MILK LIQUID held the eighth slot after earning USD1.065 million from sale of 611 MT. Volume during the month sharply dropped by 40.0% from previous year at 1,017 MT. The United States captured 254 MT (41.5%). Limited volumes went to Japan at 95 MT (15.6%), France 87 MT (14.2%), Canada 58 MT (9.5%), Belgium 57 MT (9.4%), and four other countries with total uptake of 60 MT.
FROZEN COCONUT MEAT was top 9 non-traditional export contributing USD334,697 from shipment of 100 MT (no export recorded year-ago). All shipments went to United States.
COCO DIETHANOLAMIDE held the tenth position and contributed USD290,844 from transactions involving 174 MT (no shipment from previous year). There were only six country buyers: China at 68 MT (39.3%), Thailand 55 MT (31.7%), Mexico 42 MT (24.0%), Australia 5 MT (2.8%), Bangladesh and Singapore at 2 MT apiece.
Completing the top 13 non-traditional exports were grated coco meat, coir & coir products, and shampoo. GRATED COCO MEAT had revenue of USD286,800 from trade of 63 MT (no export year-ago). Almost all of the volume was sold to the United States at 62 MT (98.1%). Canada took in the remainder at 1 MT.
COIR & COIR PRODUCTS generated USD189,462 from overseas delivery amounting to 914 MT (no export recorded year-ago). There were only two country destinations: China at 886 MT (96.9%) and Japan at 28 MT (3.1%).
SHAMPOO with turnover of USD108,041 sold 55 MT. Volume during the month was 136.3% higher than year-ago at 23 MT. There were five country destinations: United States at 21 MT (38.9%), Canada at 18 MT (32.5%), Mongolia 13 MT (23.5%), Hong Kong 2 MT and Australia 1 MT.
