PHILIPPINE EXPORT OF COCONUT PRODUCTS UP SHARPLY IN MAY

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show Philippine export of coconut products in May leaped 72.6% to 111,291 MT in copra terms from 64,469 MT in a similar month last year.  Revenue likewise spiked 73.1% to USD174.444 million from USD100.766 million propelled by high volume and prices.

Except for copra meal, all major exports posted massive growth in volume traded over last year.  Export of coconut oil at 57,160 MT soared 69.6% from 33,701 MT; desiccated coconut at 9,029 MT rocketed 105.8% from 4,387 MT; oleochemicals at 6,586 MT as copra shot up 57.0% from 4,194 MT; copra export was reported at 16 MT vs. nil last year.  Shipment of copra meal dropped 35.6% to 21,800 MT from 33,838 MT.

Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 3,343 (+13.3% from 2,951), activated carbon 6,856  (+71.9%  from  3,989),  virgin  coconut  oil  2,235 (-38.2% from 3,618), coconut water 10.327 million liters (+84.7% from 5.591 million), fresh coconuts 108,849 nuts (-71.7% from 385,141), Others 13,261 (+130.4% from 5,756).

January-May export accumulated to 741,562 MT in copra terms, a huge leap by 83.2% from 404,791 MT at the same time last year.  Breakdown is as follows, in MT: copra 63 (23 last year), coconut oil 413,528 (222,586), copra meal 51,257 (121,630), desiccated coconut 36,999 (22,766), oleochemicals as copra 27,903 (16,259); coco shell charcoal 14,808 (11,972), activated carbon 30,713 (21,441), virgin coconut oil 8,850 (11,236), coconut water 33.330 million liters (24.850 million), fresh coconuts 517,893 nuts (3,623,434), Others 74,420 (32,471).
