U.S. Import of Lauric Oils Up in October 2017

Data from Oil World show the U.S. imported 71,400 MT of lauric oils in October 2017, a jump by 36.8% from October year-ago at 52,200 MT.  A bigger part of the total was palm kernel oil which accountied for 58.8% or 42,000 MT (18,300 MT year-ago) and the remaining 41.2% or 29,400 MT (33,900 MT) was  coconut oil. 

Indonesia was top supplier of lauric oil to the U.S. during the month with shipment of 43,900 MT (25,300 MT) of which 13,300 MT (10,600 MT) was coconut oil and 30,600 MT (14,700 MT) was palm kernel oil, the equivalent of 61.5% of total lauric oil import.  The Philippines contributed 21.4% at 15,300 MT (20,900 MT) of coconut oil.  Malaysia shared 14.1% or 10,100 MT (3,600 MT) of palm kernel oil only.  Purchases from other countries totaled 2,100 MT (2,400 MT), of which 800 MT (2,400 MT) was coconut oil and 1,300 MT (nil) was palm kernel oil.  

The cumulative January-October 2017 data stood at 712,500 MT, down by 2.0% from a comparable year-earlier period total at 727,000 MT. Coconut oil uptake was 378,800 MT (429,400 MT) of which 64.0% or 242,400 MT (231,200 MT) came from the Philippines.  Palm kernel oil was 333,700 MT (297,600 MT) of which 75.6% or 252,400 MT (177,100 MT) came from Indonesia.
