Sri Lanka Activated Carbon Export Down in January-April

Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of activated carbon slightly dropped 2.2% to 12,863 MT in January-April this year from 13,157 MT in a similar period year-ago. Shipment value at USD28.994 million was higher by 12.5% from previous year at USD25.765 million. Average traded price calculated at USD2,254.09/MT FOB rose by 15.1% from prior year at USD1,958.27/MT. For the month of April alone, export was 2,573 MT, a sharp drop by 24.4% from prior year at 3,404 MT. Revenue likewise dropped 16.7%  at USD5.930 million from USD7.066 million. 

Export during the four-month period went to at least 45 countries. The top two importers held volumes above 1,000 MT and collectively accounted for 38.3% of total trade. Leading the pack was United States with 3,176 MT (24.7% share), followed  by China with 1,746 MT (7.3%). Twenty-one other countries also took in significant volume ranging 110-789 MT and jointly contributed 53.9%, namely Japan, India, Peru, Estonia, Italy, Germany, Turkey, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Poland, Russia, France, Ukraine, Hong Kong, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom, Canada, Egypt, Netherlands and Kenya. The remaining 22 countries which aggregately shared 7.8% of total sales took in volume ranging from a low of 1 MT to a high of 80 MT.
