Combined Export of World’s Major Desiccators Up in August

According to collated country data from the Philippines Statistics Authority and Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority, the combined export of desiccated coconut in August by the Philippines and Sri Lanka increased by 17.3% to 19,323 MT from 16,477 MT in a similar month last year. 

Export from the Philippines, which accounted for 84.4% of combined volume, rose by 17.7% to 16,314 MT from 13,858 MT.  Shipment from Sri Lanka at 3,009 MT climbed by 14.9% from 2,619 MT year-ago.  Computed average traded price of Philippine desiccated coconut was USD2,193.13/MT FOB (USD2,292.68/MT last year) as against Sri Lanka product with average price at USD2,628.55/MT FOB (USD3,263.43/MT).
 
The cumulative figure for January-August this year at 91,368 MT was slightly behind by 1.6% from 92,828 MT in the same period year-ago.  Export from the Philippines at 77,024 MT hiked 7.4% from last year at 71,724 MT, while delivery from Sri Lanka at 14,344 MT dived by 32.0% from 21,104 MT.  In terms of market share, the Philippines was responsible for 84.3% and Sri Lanka 15.7%.
