Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up in September
Thursday, December 13, 2018Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show Philippine export of coconut products climbed 11.3% in September to 176,661 MT in copra terms from 158,730 MT in the same month last year. Revenue, however, plunged 21.7% to USD168.065 million from USD214.620 million mainly due to low coconut oil price.
Export of coconut oil hiked 12.8% year-on-year to 93,124 MT from 82,537 MT while that of by-product copra meal slumped 58.9% to 21,008 MT from 51,106 MT. Shipment of desiccated coconut increased 11.3% to 14,359 MT from 12,907 MT while oleochemicals dropped 14.4% to 6,645 MT as copra from 7,764 MT. There was no reported export of copra during the month as last year.
Other coconut products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 8,164 (+237.1% from 2,422 year-ago), activated carbon 6,317 (+10.0% from 5,741), virgin coconut oil 2,066 (-39.5% from 3,413), coco water 6.666 million liters (-56.7% from 15.385 million), fresh coconuts 55,513 nuts (-61.1% from 150,548 nuts), Others 11,964 (+3.0% from 11,619).
January-September exports accumulated to 1,211,441 MT in copra terms, lower by 6.9% from 1,301,763 MT at the same time last year. Breakdown is as follows, in MT: copra 92 (88 last year), coconut oil 649,584 (707,248), copra meal 272,015 (147,910), desiccated coconut 91,382 (84,631), oleochemical as copra 38,979 (48,214); coco shell charcoal 59,536 (23,742), activated carbon 54,801 (54,350), virgin coconut oil 17,901 (21,126), coco water 61.031 million liters (71.548 million), fresh coconuts 1.030 million nuts (1.010 million), Others 86,328 (111,230).
