U.S. Import of Lauric Oils Down in September
Thursday, December 6, 2018Oil World figures reveal U.S. import of lauric oils in September this year at 60,000 MT slid by 5.4% from 63,400 MT in the same month year-ago. Coconut oil comprised 41.8% of the total with 25,100 MT (31,700 MT year-ago) while palm kernel oil accounted for 58.2% with 34,900 MT (31,700 MT).
Indonesia was top supplier of lauric oil to the U.S. during the month with shipment of 41,400 MT (27,600 MT), the equivalent of 69.5% of total lauric oil import. This consisted of palm kernel oil at 31,500 MT (22,500 MT) and coconut oil at 10,200 MT (5,100 MT). The Philippines shared 22.7% or 13,600 MT (25,500 MT) of coconut oil only. Malaysia contributed 5.5% or 3,300 MT (9,100 MT) of palm kernel oil only. Purchases from other countries totaled 1,400 MT (1,100 MT) of which 1,300 MT (1,000 MT) was coconut oil and 100 MT (100 MT) was palm kernel oil.
January-September total at 635,000 MT was down slightly by 1.1% from same time last year figure at 642,200 MT. Coconut oil was 364,100 MT (349,400 MT) of which 69.4% or 252,600 MT (227,100 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 270,900 MT (292,800 MT) of which 75.5% or 204,500 MT (222,900 MT) originated from Indonesia.
