Sri Lanka Desiccated Coconut Export Up in January

Figures from Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Authority show the country’s export of desiccated coconut sharply increased in January this year.  Total load at 3,562 MT jumped by 283.8% from same period year-ago at 928 MT. Shipment value at USD6.529 million sharply rose by 92.8% from prior year at USD3.386  million Average traded price was calculated at USD1,832.96/MT FOB, an appreciable increase by 49.8% from prior year at USD3,649.23/MT. 

Export in January went to 35 countries. The top six importers held volumes above 100 MT and collectively accounted for 72.8% of total trade.  Leading the pack was India with 1,484 MT (41.7% share), followed far behind by the United States with 451 MT (12.7%), Iraq 217 MT (6.1%), Germany 165 MT (4.6%), Canada 161 MT (4.5%) and Turkey 115 MT (3.2%). The remaining 29 countries which aggregately accounted for 27.2% of total sales took in volume ranging from a low of 1 MT to a high of 95 MT.
