Health Benefits of Coconut MCT Take Consumer Attention
Thursday, July 25, 2019With the rise of superfoods amid an increasing awareness about healthier products, a new type of coconut oil for consumption is taking the center stage. Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) is a saturated oil or a more concentrated form of coconut oil. “MCT, as separated from coconut oil, is made of medium-chain fatty acids that make it healthier compared to a form with long-chain fatty acids,” said United Coconut Association of the Philippines (UCAP) Vice Chairman, Marco Reyes. “It brings about a lot of wonderful health properties.”
As a food and nutritional supplement, MCT can be ingested directly or can be added to salad dressings, smoothies, coffee, or just about any beverage or food. Primarily, it can raise the body’s production of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which then removes the excess cholesterol and sends it back to the liver for disposal or recycling as bile. Thus, it is a superfood that can help prevent the onset of cardiovascular disease.
Including MCT in a person’s regular diet is seen to bring about many health benefits, which include the following: ideal weight management, instant energy for the brain, fights microbial/bacterial growth, and alzheimer’s disease management.
More on health benefits of taking MCT will be highlighted in the 2nd World Coconut Congress Conference and Exhibition to be held on August 27-29 at the SMX Convention Center Manila (www.worldcoconutcongress.com). Experts from across the globe will share key insights and research findings to give more light about MCT and coconut oil consumption for better health.
