PCA Eyes Areas for Coconut Planting

Thursday, August 29, 2019

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) is looking at new potential areas for coconut tree planting to increase the country’s coconut production and make the industry even more sustainable for farmers suffering from very low copra prices.

Speaking to reporters at the sideline of 55th International Coconut Community Session and Ministerial Meeting at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, Gonzalo T. Duque, newly appointed Philippine Coconut Authority administrator said the agency would focus on identifying shoreline areas in several provinces, particularly in Luzon, which hold major potentials for planting ‘virgin’ or new coconut trees.

He added the PCA would also conduct an inventory of public lands, which are usually converted for property development purposes, where new coconut trees can be planted.  Duque cited Pangasinan and Quezon as among the potential areas for planting new coconut trees.
