U.S. Import of Lauric Oils Down in June 2019

Data from Oil World show the U.S. imported 48,600 MT of lauric oils in June this year, sligthly down by 3% from June year-ago at 50,100 MT. Coconut oil accounted for 82.9% of the total with 40,300 MT (32,200 MT year-ago), while palm kernel oil comprised the remaining 17.8% with 8,300 MT (17,900 MT). 

The Philippines was top supplier of lauric oil to the U.S. during the month with shipment of 38,400 MT (19,300 MT) of coconut oil, the equivalent of 79.0% of total lauric oil import.  Malaysia contributed 9.2% or 4,500 MT (5,500 MT) of which 200 MT (100 MT) was coconut oil and 4,300 MT (5,400 MT) was palm kernel oil.  Indonesia shared 8.4% or 4,100 MT (24,100 MT) of which 300 MT (11,900 MT) was coconut oil and 3,800 MT (12,200 MT) was palm kernel oil. Purchases from other countries totaled 1,600 MT (1,100 MT), of which 1,400 MT (900 MT) was coconut oil and 200 MT (200 MT) was palm kernel oil. 

The cumulative January-June figure which stood at 376,100 MT was behind by 15.2%  from a comparable year-earlier period total at 443,400 MT.   Coconut oil uptake was 221,100 MT (266,600 MT) of which 70.6% or 156,200 MT (182,300 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 155,000 MT (176,800 MT) of which 76.5% or 118,700 MT (131,600 MT) originated from Indonesia.
