Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up in October 2019

Official figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) show Philippine export of coconut products in October leaped 21.9% to 190,890 MT in copra terms from 156,645 MT in the same month a year ago.  Shipment finally bounced back after suffering two straight months of continued year-on-year losses.  Gross export receipts, however, declined 9.8% at USD146.840 million from USD162.846 million mainly on low border prices.
Coconut oil and desticcated coconut were growth drivers during the month. Coconut oil export leaped 24.9% to 100,758 MT from 80,656 MT a year ago while desiccated coconut climbed 19.5% to 16,793 MT from 14,057 MT.  Export of copra meal plunged 65.1% to 18,121 MT from 51,973 MT; oleochemicals dropped 27.5% to 4,994 MT as copra from 6,887 MT.
Other products performed as follows, in MT:  coco shell charcoal 10,189 (+87.1% from 5,447 last year), activated carbon 6,949 (-3.9% from 7,231), virgin coconut oil 1,830 (-43.3% from 3,225), coco water 737,510 liters (-88.5% from 6,430,714), fresh coconuts 120,897 nuts (-28.5% from 169,049), Others 25,194 (+130.6% from 10,925).
January-October export accumulated to 1,775,312 MT in copra terms, a pronounced increase by 29.8% from 1,368,086 MT at the same time a year ago.  Corresponding revenue at USD1.392 billion lagged behind by 10.8% from USD1.561 billion in the same period year-ago.  
Breakdown of export by commodity is as follows, in MT: copra nil (92 last year), coconut oil 972,104 (730,239), copra meal 251,284 (323,988), desiccated coconut 127,211 (105,440), oleochemicals as copra 35,613 (45,866); coco shell charcoal 70,192 (64,983), activated carbon 66,857 (62,132), virgin coconut oil 18,022 (21,125), coco water 49.998 million liters (67.462 million), fresh coconuts 1.932 million nuts (1.200 million), Others 167,142 (97,253).
