Mandatory Registration of Coconut Lands in Sri Lanka

The Coconut Development Board (CDB) has announced the mandatory registration of all coconut lands in the country under the Coconut Development Act No. 46 of 1971, reported The Sunday Morning last month. The CDB has stated that according to the law, only the coconut lands registered under the Coconut Cultivation Board will be eligible for the project services and other subsidy programs implemented by the board.

The Coconut Cultivation Board had made this decision in order to maintain accurate data on the coconut lands in the country, prepare development plans, properly monitor the productivity of coconut lands, and conserve coconut lands.
