Sri Lanka Export of Coconut Kernel Products Down in January-May

Statistics from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show export of coconut kernel products in January-May declined 14% to USD106.379 million from USD123.229 million in the same period last year.  Leading export earners were coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder, and coconut cream.  Of the top five revenue generators, only coconut milk and coconut cream registered increases in turnover, respectively by 7% and 14%.

A similar growth pattern was observed in terms of volume traded during the period with coconut milk export increasing 13% at 18,668 MT from 16,507 MT and coconut cream rising 14% at 5,187 MT from 4,549 MT.   Desiccated coconut export plunged 48% at 10,545 MT from 20,357 MT, virgin coconut oil dived 28% at 3,858 MT from 5,393 MT and coconut milk powder dropped 18% at 2,625 MT from 3,215 MT.  

For other products, shipment of coconut oil climbed 31% at 1,701 MT from 1,303 MT, defatted coconut hiked 12% at 1,617 MT from 1,440 MT, coconut vinegar leaped 39% at 12,291 liters from 8,819 liters; while copra fell 35% at 955 MT from 1,476 MT, coconut water contracted 40% at 1,242 MT from 2,070 MT and coconut flour declined 19% at 742 MT from 915 MT.
