Philippine Coconut Products Export Down in July

Official figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority show Philippine export of coconut products in July fell sharply by 60.2% from a similar month last year.  Volume dropped to 68,754 MT in copra terms from 172,878 MT.  Gross export receipts at USD109.835 million declined less sharply by 16.5% from USD131.517 million on improved prices.
Export of coconut oil massively contracted by 78.8% year-on-year to 20,081 MT from 94,690 MT to record the lowest volume in any given month. By-product copra meal export at 2,742 MT squeezed last year total at 26,427 MT by 89.6%.  This contrasted with shipments of desiccated coconut and oleochemicals which recorded substantial increment.  Desiccated coconut export at 14,982 MT hiked 11.6% from 13,427 MT.  External trade of oleochemicals at 13,715 MT as copra rocketed 655.0% from 1,817 MT.
Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 9,469 (+24.3% from 7,618 last year), activated carbon 7,896 (+27.2% from 6,207), virgin coconut oil 3,024 (+84.3% from 1,640), coco water 129,223 liters (-84.8% from 848,427), fresh coconuts 241 (-8.5% from 263), Others 32,139 ( +29.2% from 24,877).
Cumulative figure for the seven-month period to July was 980,238 MT in copra terms, a reduction by 22.1% from 1,257,843 MT at the same time last year. Revenue amounted to USD916.776 million, lower by 10.0% compared to USD1.019 billion a year ago.
Breakdown by volume is as follows, in MT: coconut oil 494,943 (697,570 last year), copra meal 117,515 (183,837), desiccated coconut 85,704 (81,793), oleochemicals as copra 62,111 (24.131); coco shell charcoal 53,026 (44,203), activated carbon 46,282 (47,295), virgin coconut oil 14,134 (12,862), coco water 12.343 million liters (46.392 million), fresh coconuts 396 (1,477), Others 171,108 (100,809). 
DESTINATIONS OF COCO OIL EXPORT IN JULY
Export of coconut oil in July consisted of 8,149 MT crude coconut oil, 1,582 MT cochin (refined bleached) oil, and 10,350 MT RBD (refined, bleached and deodorized) oil, the combined value of which was USD20.160 million. 
The top six importers of coconut oil accounted for 94.9% of total shipment.  Europe remained market leader with uptake at 5,023 MT (25.0%), trailed by China with 4,073 MT (20.3%), Malaysia 3,421 MT (17.0%), the US with 3,227 MT (16.1%) , Sri Lanka 1,764 MT (8.8%) and Japan 1,551 MT (7.7%).
Shipment of crude coconut oil was shared by Europe, Malaysia, and China with Europe responsible for 4,733 MT (Netherlands 4,723, Germany 10), followed by Malaysia at 3,287 MT, and China 130 MT.  Cochin oil went mainly to Japan at 1,520 MT, with limited volume for Pakistan at 62 MT.
On the other hand, RBD coconut oil went to 17 destinations led by China at 3,943 MT, closely trailed by the US at 3,227 MT, and Sri Lanka which rounded up the top three at 1,764 MT.  Other destinations took in volume no higher than 300 MT: Europe 291 MT (Netherlands 214, Germany 38, Hungary 21, Croatia 17); Iran 228 MT, Taiwan 176 MT, Malaysia 135 MT, Pakistan 124 MT, Canada 111 MT, Argentina 106 MT, Turkey 81 MT, Vietnam 53 MT, Japan 31 MT, Singapore 29 MT, Ecuador 26 MT, Australia 19 MT, and New Zealand 8 MT.
