Sri Lanka Export of Coconut Kernel Products Up in January-July

Figures from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority showed, export of coconut products during the seven-month period to July slightly rose by 3% to Rs32,963.41 million (USD178.18 million) from same period year-earlier at Rs32,016.57 million.  The top five exports generated Rs28,373.59 million (USD153.37 million).  This comprised of coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, coconut cream and coconut milk powder, in that order.
Volume wise for the top five exports, coconut milk and coconut cream recorded double digit-increments contrasting with declines registered in desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil and coconut milk powder.  Export of coconut milk leaped 21% to 30,527 MT from 25,129 MT and that of coconut cream spiked 28% to 7,902 MT from 6,171 MT.  On the other hand, desiccated coconut export plunged 41% to 16,830 MT from 28,762 MT; virgin coconut oil fell 7% to 7,101 MT from 7,644 MT and coconut milk powder slumped 13% to 3,885 MT from 4,481 MT.
The next five export earners mostly reflected substantial increases both in volume and revenue.  Product volume performance is as follows:  coconut oil 2,681 MT (2,072 MT year-ago), fresh nuts 9.768 million nuts (9.728 million), coconut water 3,816 MT (3,141 MT), defatted coconut 2,429 MT (1,694 MT), and coconut flour 1,552 MT (1,280 MT); for respective growth of 20%, 0.4%, 21%, 43%, and 23%.
