U.S. Import of Lauric Oils Down in October 2020

Oil World figures reveal U.S. import of lauric oils in October 2020 at 81,700 MT slid by 14.8% from 95,900 MT in the same month year-ago. Coconut oil comprised 54.2% of the total with 44,300 MT (55,100 MT year-ago) while palm kernel oil accounted for 45.8% with 37,400 MT (40,800 MT).
Indonesia was top supplier of lauric oil to the U.S. during the month with shipment of 45,000 MT (44,400 MT), the equivalent of 55.1% of total lauric oil import. This consisted of palm kernel oil at 29,300 MT (34,200 MT) and coconut at 15,700 MT (10,200 MT). The Philippines shared 33.5% or 27,400 MT (37,900 MT) of coconut oil only. Malaysia contributed 9.9% or 8,100 MT (10,800 MT) of which 100 MT (4,400 MT) was coconut oil and 8,000 MT (6,400 MT) was palm kernel oil. Purchases from other countries totaled 1,100 MT (2,600) of coconut oil. Last year palm kernel was imported at 200 MT.
January-October 2020 import total at 714,400 MT was 5.0% above same time last year figure at 680,600 MT. Coconut oil was 396,000 MT (388,000 MT) of which 63.0% or 249,600 MT (258,600 MT) came from the Philippines. Palm kernel oil was 318,400 MT (292,600 MT) of which 76.7% or 244,300 MT (218,900 MT) originated from Indonesia.
