Sri Lanka Export of Coconut Kernel Products Up in January-October 2020

Figures from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show, the country’s export of coconut kernel products in January-October 2020 increased 15% to Rs52,495.27 million (USD283.436 million) from Rs45,591.19 million (USD255.699 million) at the same time year-earlier.  The top three export earners during the period were still coconut milk, desiccated coconut, and virgin coconut oil.  Their total receipts comprised 67% of aggregate revenues from coconut kernel products during the 10-month period. 
The top three foreign exchange earners posted double-digit upturn in volume traded from respective prior year with exception of desiccated.  Coconut milk shipment jumped 26% to 43,641 MT from 34,601 MT, desiccated coconut plunged 41% to 25,304 MT from 42,948 MT,  and virgin coconut oil hiked 15% to 12,171 MT from 10,614 MT.
The next five leading export earners accounted for 28% of total turnover from kernel products.  In volume terms, this comprised of the following, in MT: coconut cream 12,455 (8,975 year-earlier), coconut milk powder 5,770 (6,182), coconut oil 4,432 (2,940), coconut water 10,137 (4,232), fresh nuts (‘000 nuts) 13,994 (16,909).
