Coco Levy Act to Benefit 3.5 Million Filipino Farmers

Senator Cynthia Villar, chairperson of Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food and principal sponsor of Senate Bill No. 1396 or the “Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act,” said, “President Rodrigo Duterte’s signing of the Coco Levy Act would benefit the country’s 3.5 coconut farmers from 68 coconut-producing provinces, who own at most five hectares for the last 10 years.”  The law seeks to create a trust fund for the coconut farmers which rightfully belongs to them, thus should be plowed back to them for their own direct benefit, she added.
