Performance of Philippine Top Non-Traditional Coco Products Export in December 2020

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show increasing number of non-traditional coconut products qualifying in the top non-traditional export products category.  For the month of December, the number rose to 18 coconut products, the highest so far since the monitoring began for products generating export revenue of more than USD100,000 in a month. The million US dollar earners also rose to eight during the month, likewise the highest so far, which included the following: virgin coconut oil, coconut concentrates, glycerin, coconut milk liquid, coconut milk powder, coconut oil other, coconut acid oil and toilet/bath soap.
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL led the pack with earnings of USD8.341 million from export of 2,463 MT. The shipment leaped by 53.0% from previous year total at 1,610 MT.  The United States was top market capturing 1,696 MT (68.9% of total sales).  Limited volumes went to Netherlands at 143 MT (5.8%), Germany 124 MT (5.0%), Canada 115 MT (4.7%), United Kingdom 100 MT (4.1%) and 14 other countries responsible for 285 MT (11.6%).
COCONUT CONCENTRATES, the second biggest non-traditional export during the month, grossed USD7.569 million from overseas purchases of 7,506 MT.  Volume during the month jumped by 71.6% from 4,374 MT last year.  The United States was biggest market cornering 3,628 MT (48.3%), followed far behind by United Kingdom at 923 MT (12.3%), Netherlands 696 MT (9.3%), Canada 590 MT (7.9%), China 493 MT (6.6%), France 405 MT (5.4%), Australia 302 MT (4.0%), Brazil 149 MT (2.0%) and 11 other countries that shared 321 MT (4.3%).
GLYCERIN, which took the third spot, had income of USD2.449 million. Tonnage at 2,682 MT was slightly up by 3.6% from previous year at 2,588 MT. Japan was the largest market controlling 1,584 MT (59.1%), followed by China at 751 MT (28.0%).  Smaller volumes went to Thailand at 104 MT (3.9%), Malaysia 99 MT (3.7%) and six other countries which absorbed the remaining 143 MT (5.3%).
Fourth in rank COCO MILK LIQUID recorded proceeds of USD2.035 million from shipment of 1,494 MT which more than doubled year-ago at 710 MT.   The United States was primary market securing 410 MT (27.4%), followed by Malaysia 293 MT (19.6%), Netherlands 231 MT (15.5%), Australia 98 MT (6.6%), Austria 89 MT (5.9%), France 67 MT (4.5%), United Kingdom 59 MT (3.9%), Japan 57 MT (3.8%) and 10 other countries sharing 191 MT (12.8%).
Fifth placer COCONUT MILK POWDER had turnover of USD1.543 million from overseas orders of 266 MT (186 MT year-ago).  Bulk of the tonnage at 104 MT (39.0%) went to Mexico.  Other destinations were the United States at 56 MT (21.1%), Australia 53 MT (19.9%), Netherlands 25 MT (9.6%), and seven others that jointly took in 28 MT (10.4%).
The top six export, COCONUT OIL, OTHER, registered earnings of USD1.403 million from trade of 418 MT.  Volume was more than 13 times year-ago at 32 MT.  The United States was major market at 303 MT (72.5%).  Following far behind were Japan at 52 MT (12.5%), Australia 39 MT (9.4%) and three other countries with total purchases of 24 MT (5.6%).
COCONUT ACID OIL landed seventh and turned in USD1.292 million from delivery of 2,085 MT (no export recorded year-ago).  All shipment went to China.
TOILET/BATH SOAP which earned USD1.211 million from external trade of 513 MT (293 MT) filled in the eighth place. Vietnam was leading destination at 204 MT (39.8%), followed by Thailand at 140 MT (27.4%), United Arab Emirates at 92 MT (17.8%), Singapore 36 MT (7.1%) and Kuwait 18 MT (3.6%).  Fourteen other countries took in the remaining 22 MT (4.4%).
HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL with receipts of USD908,237 after selling 250 MT was number nine in the list.  Purchases during the month almost doubled (+91.7%) same period year-ago data at 130 MT. Australia was key market at 87 MT (34.8%), trailed by Canada 75 MT (29.9%), Taiwan 34 MT (13.5%), Belgium 20 MT (8.2%), while four other countries shared the balance 34 MT (13.7%).
FATTY ACID DISTILLATES held the tenth position with turnover of USD832,483 from transactions involving 1,371 MT (2,378 MT).  There were three country destinations with China as almost an exclusive importer at 1,253 MT (91.5%); Pakistan took in 81 MT (5.9%) and India 36 MT (2.6%).
  Completing the top 18 non-traditional exports were: nata de coco, coco flour, coco peat/dust, coir products, macapuno, coconut sugar, coconut water and coconut meat grated. NATA DE COCO had revenue of USD630,485 from trade of 565 MT (178 MT). The United States took the lead at 148 MT (26.2%), trailed by Japan at 134 MT (23.8%), Canada 105 MT (18.5%), China 52 MT (9.2%) and 11 other countries sharing the remaining 126 MT (22.3%).
COCO FLOUR generated USD495,858 from deals amounting to 433 MT (214 MT). The United States was primary market with uptake at 137 MT (31.6%), followed by Germany 87 MT (20.0%), United Kingdom 71 MT (16.4%), Australia 35 MT (8.0%), Belgium 31 MT (7.1%) and six other countries that collectively took in 74 MT (17.0%).
COCO PEAT/DUST contributed USD458,030 from exports of 8,423 MT (7,909 MT). There were only three country markets: China, which bought almost all volume at 8,286 MT (98.4%), South Korea 70 MT (0.8%) and Malaysia 67 MT (0.8%).
COIR PRODUCTS turned in USD445,759 from shipment of 1,788 MT (3,278 MT).  There were only three country destinations: China, which was almost an exclusive buyer at 1,751 MT (97.9%), South Korea at 26 MT (1.4%) and Japan 12 MT (0.7%).
MACAPUNO posted receipts of USD329,911 from orders of 237 MT (1 MT).  The United States was top outlet at 84 MT (35.4%).  Following behind were United Arab Emirates 82 MT (34.7%), Qatar 30 MT (12.5%), Italy 13 MT (5.4%), while seven other countries shared the remainder of 29 MT (12.0%).
COCONUT SUGAR generated USD180,553 from trades amounting to 55 MT (no export recorded year-ago). There were only four country destinations, namely Germany at 18 MT (33.5%), Italy and Netherlands at 16 MT apiece (respective shares of 29.8% and 29.4%), and France 4 MT (7.3%)
COCONUT WATER reported turnover of USD149,782 from imports of 172,024 liters (1.081million liters).  There were only five country importers led by the United States at 96,553 liters (56.1%), followed by Japan at 40,062 liters (23.3%), Hong Kong 20,300 liters (11.8%), China 15,000 liters (8.7%) and Indonesia 109 liters (0.1%). 
COCONUT MEAT GRATED earned USD146,114 from purchases of 87 MT (348 MT).  The United States led the buyers’ list at 32 MT (36.9%), trailed by Canada at 23 MT (26.7%), United Kingdom and Brazil at 9 MT apiece (respective shares of 10.2% and 9.8%) while five other countries shared the balance 14 MT (16.4%).
