Performance of Philippine Top Non-Traditional Coco Products Export in April
Thursday, July 22, 2021Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show 17 non-traditional coconut products generated export revenue of more than USD100,000 during the month to qualify for the top non-traditional export products category. The top eight non-traditional exports had respective earnings of more than USD1.000 million: virgin coconut oil, coconut water concentrates, coconut water, coconut milk liquid, fatty acid distillates, glycerin, coconut milk powder and coconut oil, other.
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL led the pack with earnings of USD7.770 million from export of 2,147 MT. Tonnage leaped by 55.4% from previous year at 1,382 MT. The United States was top market capturing 971 MT (45.2% of total sales), followed far behind by Germany at 276 MT (12.9%), Netherlands 249 MT (11.6%), Canada 147 MT (6.9%), United Kingdom 130 MT (6.1%), Australia 114 MT (8.3%), and 15 other countries responsible for 259 MT (12.1%).
COCONUT WATER, CONCENTRATES, was second biggest non-traditional export with revenue of USD6.897 million from export of 6,846 MT (6,407 MT year-ago). The United States was market leader with orders amounting to 4,188 MT (61.2%). Smaller volumes went to the Netherlands at 756 MT (11.0%), United Kingdom at 586 MT (8.6%), Canada 485 MT (7.1%), France 209 MT (3.1%), Brazil 193 MT (2.8%), China 151 MT (2.2%), Australia 103 MT (1.5%), and seven other countries which took in 173 MT (17.9%).
COCONUT WATER, which took the third spot, had income of USD3.258 million from shipment of 3,335,251 liters. Volume increased by 26.4% from year-ago at 2,639,476 liters. The United States was the biggest outlet cornering 1,055,437 liters (31.6%), followed distance behind by Canada at 566,759 liters (17.0%), United Kingdom at 487,011 liters (14.6%), Netherlands 477,563 liters (14.3%), Australia 135,651 liters (4.1%), France 115,751 liters (3.5%), China 103,361 liters (3.6%), Germany 100,597 liters (3.0%) while seven others shared the balance of 293,123 liters (8.8%).
Fourth in rank COCONUT MILK LIQUID recorded proceeds of USD2.648 million from delivery of 2,298 MT, a whopping increase by 237.3% from 681 MT year-ago. Malaysia was market leader at 774 MT (33.7%), trailed by the United States at 477 MT (20.8%), Netherlands 325 MT (14.1%), United Kingdom 301 MT (13.1%), Germany 129 MT (5.6%) while six other countries jointly held 293 MT (12.8%).
Fifth placer FATTY ACID DISTILLATES had turnover of USD2.607 million from overseas purchases of 3,469 MT (no export recorded year-ago). There were five country destinations with China taking the bulk at 2,977 MT (85.8%). The four other buyers were Pakistan 299 MT (8.6%), United States 100 MT (2.9%), Malaysia 54 MT (1.5%) and Hong Kong 39 MT (1.1%).
The top six export, GLYCERIN, registered earnings of USD2.539 million. The cargo at 3,223 MT was more than 5 times the previous year data at 564 MT. China was principal destination at 1,842 MT (57.2%), with smaller loads for Japan at 945 MT (29.3%), South Korea 217 MT (6.7%), Malaysia 94 MT (2.9%) and six other countries that collectively shared 125 MT (3.9%).
COCONUT MILK POWDER landed seventh and turned in USD1.826 million from delivery of 293 MT (160 MT). The United States was primary importer at 136 MT (46.6%), followed by Australia at 40 MT (13.7%), Taiwan, Italy and Netherlands at 26 MT apiece (8.7%), Mexico at 21 MT (7.1%) and three other countries sharing 18 MT (6.1%).
COCONUT OIL, OTHER which earned USD1.703 million from external trade of 446 MT (244 MT) filled in the eighth place. The United States was key market at 311 MT (69.7%), while smaller cargoes went to Japan at 52 MT (11.6%), Australia 25 MT (5.7%) and three other countries with combined uptake 58 MT (12.9%).
COIR & COIR PRODUCTS registered receipts of USD841,174 after trading 2,470 MT to become number nine in the list. Total purchases during the month ballooned to more than four times year-ago at 556 MT. There were only four country destinations where China took the biggest load at 2,188 MT (88.6%). Smaller volumes went to United States at 129 MT (5.2%), Japan 104 MT (4.2%), United Kingdom 48 MT (2.0%).
TOILET/BATH SOAP held the 10th position with turnover of USD653,197 from transactions involving 260 MT (160 MT). Vietnam was main importer at 123 MT (47.6%), tracked by Thailand at 45 MT (17.3%), Malaysia 20 MT (7.8%), Singapore 18 MT (6.8%), and 11 other countries that jointly held 53 MT (20.5%).
Completing the top 17 non-traditional exports were: nata de coco, hydrogenated coconut oil, coco peat/dust, coconut flour, makapuno, shampoo, and coconut syrup. NATA DE COCO had revenue of USD591,429 from trade of 465 MT (63 MT). The United States was major market at 122 MT (26.3%), trailed by Canada at 100 MT (21.5%), Japan 78 MT (16.8%), China 52 MT (11.2%), Netherlands 36 MT (7.8%) and 11 other countries collectively responsible for 76 MT (16.4%).
HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL generated USD570,303 with total volume at 179 MT (8 MT). Canada was lead importer at 99 MT (55.6%), followed by Belgium at 41 MT (22.8%) and three other countries sharing the balance of 39 MT (21.6%).
COCO DUST/PEAT contributed USD503,827 from deals amounting to 9,369 MT (1,251 MT). There were five country destinations. China was almost an exclusive market with purchases of 9,097 MT (97.1%). The four other markets were Malaysia 141 MT, Taiwan 71 MT, South Korea 46 MT, and Japan 14 MT.
COCONUT FLOUR earned USD374,886 from orders of 302 MT (340 MT). The United States headed the list of buyers at 110 MT (36.6%), tracked by Germany at 51 MT (16.8%), Canada at 46 MT (15.3%), Argentina and Indonesia at 25 MT apiece (8.4%), Saudi Arabia 14 MT (4.6%), Italy 11 MT (3.6%). Six other countries bought the remaining 19 MT (6.4%).
MAKAPUNO turned in USD291,888 from shipment of 180 MT (no shipment year-ago). The United States was topmost destination at 44 MT (24.6%), trailed by United Arab Emirates at 35 MT (19.4%), Canada at 31 MT (17.2%) and six others which absorbed the balance of 70 MT (38.9%).
SHAMPOO earned USD160,079 from purchases of 29 MT (no export year-ago). India was leading buyer responsible for 11 MT (36.2%), followed by Mongolia at 9 MT (31.2%), Singapore 5 MT (17.0%), Netherlands 2 MT (7.9%), US 1 MT (3.7%) and six other countries with combined uptake 1 MT (4.0%).
COCONUT SYRUP export at 52 MT (51 MT) was valued USD101,724. There were only two country destinations: Sri Lanka 51 MT (98.1%) and India at 1 MT (1.0%).
