Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Export Up in April
Thursday, July 29, 2021Data from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s coconut kernel products export in April more than doubled last year. Total at Rs5,789.05 million (USD29.69 million) shot up 125% from Rs2,573.53 million (USD13.97 million). Revenue from the top five exports at Rs5,079.89 million jumped 124% from Rs2,266.51 million. The market leaders were coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut, coconut milk powder and coconut cream. The top four products upped respective turnovers massively by 171%, 121%, 111% and 133%. Coconut cream recorded 61% increment.
With respect to volume, the top five exports likewise posted substantial year-on-year increases led by coconut milk which spiked 124% to 4,030 MT from 1,798 MT; followed by coconut milk powder at +95% to 572 MT from 294 MT; desiccated coconut at +68% to 2,234 MT from 1,332 MT; virgin coconut oil at +66% to 897 MT from 540 MT; and coconut cream at +34% to 1,152 MT from 862 MT.
Total export of the top five coconut products in January-April were as follows, in MT: coconut milk 17,296 (11,257 last year), desiccated coconut 9,171 (8,636), virgin coconut oil 3,829 (2,778), coconut milk powder 2,511 (2,233), coconut cream 4,883 (3,905). Total earnings amounted to Rs21,199.23 million, a leap by 68% from Rs12,646.14 million. The figure comprised 87% of total kernel products receipts during the period at Rs24,489.23 million.
