Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Exports Up in March

Data from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s coconut kernel products export in March rocketed 117% to Rs 8,026.31 million (USD41.31 million) from Rs 3,693.10 million (USD20.24 million) year-earlier.  The top five exports generated Rs 6,916.65 million, more than double last year at Rs 3,118.83 million (+122%).  The leading products included coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder and coconut cream in that order, which saw three-digit year-on-year growths for the top three (+127%, +105%, +227%, respectively), and double-digit growths (+76% and +94%, respectively) for the rest.  

In terms of volume traded, the products also showed steep increases over similar month last year led by virgin coconut oil at +138% from 571 MT to 1,361 MT; followed by coconut milk at +88% from 2,738 MT to 5,156 MT; desiccated coconut at +58% from 1,981 MT to 3,124 MT; coconut cream at +55% from 1,009 MT to 1,563 MT; and coconut milk powder at +9% from 691 MT to 751 MT. 

Total export of the top five commodities during three-month period to March are as follows, in MT: coconut milk 13,266 (9,459 last year), desiccated coconut 6,937 (7,304), virgin coconut oil 2,932 (2,238), coconut milk powder 1,939 (1,939), coconut cream 3,731 (3,043).  Aggregate revenue was Rs 16,119.34 million, up 55% from Rs 10,379.63 million.
