Sri Lanka Coco Kernel Products Export Up in June

Figures from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s coconut kernel products export hiked 16% in June over same month year-earlier.  Total earnings  at Rs6,954.62 million (USD35.37 million) exceeded last year at Rs5,977.98 million (USD32.26 million).  The top five exports’ total revenue at Rs5,895.42 million likewise leaped 17% from last year at Rs5,055.65 million.  This comprised of desiccated coconut, coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut cream and coconut milk powder in that order. Except for coconut milk powder which slightly reduced earnings, the rest continued to outpace year-ago data. 

In terms of volume, coconut milk was leading export during the month at 4,230 MT (4,970 MT last year), trailed by desiccated coconut at 2,785 MT (2,758 MT), coconut cream 1,665 MT (1,406 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,404 MT (1,418 MT) and coconut milk powder 391 MT (581 MT).  

The cumulative export volume in January-June showed the leading exports growing at double-digit rates save for coconut milk powder with modest gain: coconut milk 25,657 MT (+31% from 19,570 last year), desiccated coconut 14,657 MT (+10% from 13,303 MT), coconut cream 7,929 MT (+20% from 6,593 MT), virgin coconut oil 6,340 MT (+20% from 5,276 MT), coconut milk powder 3,345 MT (+4% from 3,206 MT).  Revenue collectively amounted to Rs.32,700.66 million, a sharp rise by 52% from Rs21,528.87 million.
