Philippine Export of Coconut Products Down in February

Official figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority show export of coconut products in February by the Philippines totaled 116,653 MT in copra terms, dropping slightly by 3.9% from February a year ago at 121,434 MT.  However, revenue generated during the month leaped 29.1% to USD166.364 million from USD128.871 million buoyed by high prices. 


Of major exports, copra meal and oleochemicals showed substantial growth in volume traded during the month, while the rest posted declines. 
Export of coconut oil fell 10.1% year-on-year to 53,705 MT from 59,756 MT, desiccated coconut contracted 15.7% to 11,976 MT from 14,202 MT while copra meal spiked 76.4% to 25,724 MT from 14,583 MT and oleochemicals rocketed 178.7% to 12,891 MT as copra from 4,625 MT.
Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 6,229 (-18.4% from 7,630 last year), activated carbon 5,616 (-23.4% from 7,328), virgin coconut oil 3,158 (+59.9% from 1,974), coco water 2.496 million liters  (+190.7% from 858,560 liters),  fresh  coconuts 2  (92.2% from 24), Others 26,531 (-6.9% from 28,487).


Total exports in January-February reached 230,245 MT in copra terms, dropping 22.7% from 297,891 MT at the same time last year.  Breakdown is as follows, in MT: coconut oil 106,007 (159,611 last year), copra meal 45,572 (57,809), desiccated coconut 22,499 (22,504), oleochemicals as copra 27,195 (9,747); Coco shell charcoal 11,503 (12,139), activated carbon 11,787 (14,244), virgin coconut oil 6,790 (3,202), coco water  2.536 million liters (5.860 million), fresh coconuts 75 (438), Others 52,345 (31,489).
