Chinese Import of Lauric Oils Down in December 2021

Data from Oil World show China imported 94,000 MT of lauric oils in December 2021, sharply down by 19.7% from same period year-ago at 117,000 MT as import of palm kernel oil declined sharply by 23.7%. Palm kernel oil remained the dominant lauric oil import accounting 78.7% of lauric oil uptake during the month at 74,000 MT (97,000 MT last year) while coconut oil at 20,000 MT (20,000 MT) shared 21.3%.
Indonesia remained the country’s major source of lauric oil contributing 56.4% with delivery of 53,000 MT (93,000 MT) which consisted of 45,000 MT (78,000 MT) of palm kernel oil and 8,000 MT (15,000 MT) of coconut oil. Malaysia was responsible for 34.0% with total amounting to 32,000 MT (20,000 MT) of which 29,000 MT (20,000 MT) was palm kernel oil and 3,000 MT (no export recorded year-ago) was coconut oil. The Philippines contributed 9.6% or 9,000 MT (4,000 MT) of coconut oil only. Supply from other countries was solely palm kernel oil at 100 MT (nil). Last year coconut oil import was 100 MT.
Total imports in January-December stood at 802,000 MT, down by 11.3% from 904,000 MT at the same time last year. Palm kernel oil was 628,000 MT (742,000 MT) and was mostly (73.6%) supplied by Indonesia at 462,000 MT (541,000 MT). Coconut oil was 174,000 MT (162,000 MT) and bulk of which at 94,000 MT (103,000 MT) representing 54.0% likewise came from Indonesia. The Philippines contributed 25.3% to total coconut oil import.
