Chinese Import of Oils and Fats Down Slightly in 2021
Thursday, February 3, 2022Data from Oil World show China imported 13.015 million MT of 17 oils and fats in calendar year 2021, slightly down by 1.9% from same period year-ago at 13.274 million MT, mainly due to reductions in sunflower oil and palm kernel imports by 34.3% and 15.4%, respectively.
Palm oil was the leading import accounting for more than half (51.0%) of total at 6.633 million MT (6.567 million MT year-earlier), followed by rapeseed oil with share at 16.6% at 2.154 MT (1.932 million MT). Completing the top five imports were sunflower oil 1.283 million MT (1.954 million MT), soya oil 1.120 million MT (963,000 MT), palm kernel oil 628,000 MT (742,000 MT), with respective market share at 10.0%, 8.6%, and 4.8%.
Coconut oil ranked 8 in the oils/fats import order. Import during the year increased 7.4% at 174,000 MT from 162,000 MT. Other vegetable oils/fats imported were: castor oil 339,000 MT (299,000 MT), groundnut oil 281,000 MT (269,000 MT), tallow & grease 100,000 MT (102,000 MT) and Others oils/fats 303,000 MT (284,000 MT).
