Sri Lanka Coco Kernel Products Export Up in October
Thursday, February 3, 2022Data from Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority show the country’s coconut kernel products export in October leaped sharply by 41% to Rs8,568.29 million (USD43.17 million) from Rs6,055.39 million (USD32.70 million). The five leading exports jointly accounted for 85% of this total with revenue at Rs7,277.08 million (Rs5,093.53 million in previous year).
Desiccated coconut maintained its position as top export with turnover at Rs2,409.24 million, nearly double year-ago at Rs1,219.65 million (+98%). This was followed by coconut milk at Rs1,785.94 million (+37% from Rs1,299.45 million year-ago), virgin coconut oil at Rs1,193.98 million (-6% from Rs1,275.84 million), coconut cream at Rs1,076.07 million (+68% from Rs640.60 million), and coconut milk powder at Rs811.85 million (+23% from Rs657.99 million).
In terms of volume, however, the leading export was coconut milk with total shipment at 4,674 MT (3,761 MT year-ago), tracked by desiccated coconut at 4,141 MT (6,333 MT), coconut cream at 2,198 MT (1,586 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,290 MT (1,491 MT), and coconut milk powder 789 MT (719 MT). January-October export of the top five products were as follows, in MT: coconut milk 43,376 (+14 from 38,053), desiccated coconut 29,159 (+15% from 25,304), coconut cream 15,788 (+27% from,12,455), virgin coconut oil 11,828 (-3% from 12,171), coconut milk powder 5,985 (+4% from 5,770). Aggregate earnings amounted to Rs60,161.16 million, a jump by 37% from Rs43,958.51 million in a similar period a year ago.
