Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up Sharply in January
Thursday, April 28, 2022Official figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed the country’s export of coconut products shot up in January by 58.8% to 180,387 MT in copra terms from 113,592 MT at the same time last year. Gross export receipts leaped even higher by 61.7% to USD259.109 million from USD160.221 million propelled largely by high coconut oil earnings.
Export of coconut oil at 97,009 MT nearly doubled last year at 52,302 MT (+85.5%) with value at USD171.574 million rocketing 140.4% from USD71.364 million. Copra meal shipment likewise leaped 96.1% to 38,916 MT from 19,849 MT with turnover at USD7.317 million posting 71.7% spike from USD4.262 million. Desiccated coconut trade at 11,810 MT grew 12.2% from 10,523 MT but export proceeds hopped a higher 35.6% to USD30.613 million from USD22.583 million. By contrast, oleochemicals fell 43.1% to 8,145 MT as copra from 14,304 MT; income likewise came down 22.7% to USD10.852 million from USD14.030 million.
Other products performed as follows, in MT: coco shell charcoal 7,395 (+40.2% from 5,274 last year), activated carbon 5,873 (-4.8% from 6,170), virgin coconut oil 1,776 (-51.1% from 3,632), coco water 190 liters (-99.5% from 40,062 liters), fresh coconut 9 (-88.4% from 73), Others 17,001 (-34.1% from 25,814).
