Canada to Require Special Labels on Food Products High in Sugar, Sodium and Saturated Fat

Thursday, August 4, 2022

The Canadian government is introducing new legislation requiring companies to add special labels on food products high in sugar, sodium and fat.  The new rules will require packaged foods containing more that 15% of the daily recommended intake of sugar, salt or saturated fats to display a label flagging this for consumers, according to Globe and Mail.
Health organizations said the move was an important step in fighting obesity and diet-related illness. The program will be fully implemented in 2026, as a long transition period would be needed to give food companies to comply.
