Indonesia’s State-Owned Companies Team Up to Produce Biogas from POME

Thursday, October 27, 2022

State-owned companies (BUMN) signed a cooperation agreement in Bali during the International conference of state-owned enterprises in Bali on October 18 to supply compressed biomethane.  The group included BUMN Pertamina NRE, BUMN Pertagas Niaga (gas sub-holding company of Pertamina), and BUMN (plantations) PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (PTPN III).

Based on the cooperation agreement, Pertamina NRE and PTPN III will develop a facility of biomethane production.  PTPN III will supply the raw materials in the form of palm oil mill effluent (POME), which is a waste of palm oil mills owned by PTPN III.  The POME waste is processed into biogas and then refined and compressed at the biomethane green refinery plant of Pertamina NRE. Pertagas Niaga will purchase the compressed biomethane gas from Pertamina NRE.  The distribution of the compressed renewable gas will be started during the third quarter of 2023.
