Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Export Up Sharply in August

Data from the Sri Lanka Coconut Development Authority showed the country’s export of coconut kernel products during the eight-month period to August generated Rs87,453.11 million (USD287.4 million), a leap by 61% over prior year at Rs54,325.11 million (USD274.80 million).  The top five export products namely, desiccated coconut, coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder, and coconut cream in that order collectively earned Rs70,996.59 million (USD233.32 million), higher by 52% than year-ago at Rs46,745.24 million (USD236.51 million).

Volume-wise, however, coconut milk led with total at 36,241 MT (+5% from 34,546 MT year-ago), followed by desiccated coconut at 28,302 MT (+30% from 21,812 MT), coconut cream 12,278 MT (+5% from 11,723 MT), virgin coconut oil at 10,451 MT (+14% from 9,179 MT), coconut milk powder 5,637 MT (+20% from 4,683 MT).

For the month of August, total kernel products export was Rs13,074.25 million (USD42.97 million). The top five exports earned a total of Rs10,415.80 million (USD34.23 million).  Coconut milk was top export in terms of volume at 4,202 MT (4,071 MT last year), followed by desiccated coconut at 4,136 MT (3,679 MT), coconut cream at 1,585 MT (1,765 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,444 MT (1,444 MT), and coconut milk powder 757 MT (715 MT).
