India Import of Vegetable Oils Up in November 2022

India’s import of vegetable oils, edible and non-edible, in November 2022, the first month of the Oil Year 2022-23 amounted to 1,545,540 MT, rising by 11% from prior month at 1,396,969 MT and by 32% from prior year at 1,173,747 MT, data from the Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA) showed.  SEA said, crude palm oil import at 931,180 MT was an all-time high ever reported in a single month since import started.  The figure is comparatively higher than 756,745 MT in October 2022 and 477,160 MT in November 2021.
Total edible oil import, which comprised of RBD palm olein, crude palm oil, crude sunflower oil, crude soybean oil, rapeseed oil, and crude palm kernel oil, was 1,528,760 MT, increasing by 12% over prior month at 1,365,995 MT and by 34% from prior year at 1,138,823 MT.  Apart from crude palm oil, increases were also reported in RBD palm olein import at 202,248 MT (+58% from October 2022), crude sunflower oil at 157,709 MT (+9%), crude palm kernel oil at 8,250 MT (+334%).  By contrast, soybean oil import at 229,373 MT declined by 31%.  There was no reported import of rapeseed oil in November.
Indonesia and Malaysia are the major suppliers of RBD palm olein and crude palm oil.  During the month in review, supply from Indonesia was 172,348 MT palm olein and 519,301 MT crude palm oil; from Malaysia were 29,900 MT palm olein and 283,425 MT crude palm oil, while Thailand supplied 87,383 MT crude palm oil.  Sources of soybean oil were Argentina (151,144 MT) and Brazil (78,229 MT); while sunflower oil mainly came from Argentina (10,000 MT), Ukraine (75,500 MT), Russia (42,574 MT).
