Performance of Philippine Top Non-Traditional Coconut Products Exports in October 2022

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show 15 non-traditional coconut products generated export revenue of more than USD100,000 in October, same number as September, thus qualified in the top non-traditional export products category. The top nine export products had revenue exceeding USD1.000 million during the month, likewise same number as September. The 15 products were coconut water, virgin coconut oil, coconut water concentrates, hydrogenated coconut oil, coconut milk liquid, glycerin, other coconut oil, toilet/bath soap, fatty acid distillates, biodiesel, coconut milk powder, coco peat/dust, coir products, nata de coco, shampoo.
COCONUT WATER kept its top position during the month with turnover of USD9.317 million from sale of 10,890 MT; volume skyrocketed from merely 64 MT a year ago. The US likewise remained market leader at 6,348 MT (58.3% share), trailed by Canada at 1,485 MT (13.6%), United Kingdom 1,477 MT (13.6%). Smaller loads went to Australia at 550 MT (5.0%), Netherlands 437 MT (4.0%), and 13 others which held 594 MT (5.5%).
Similarly, VIRGIN COCONUT OIL stayed second place with income of USD5.986 million from delivery of 1,715 MT, slightly higher by 2.3% from previous year at 1,676 MT. The US cornered bulk of shipment with 1,167 MT (68.0%); the rest took in tonnage of less than 100 MT such as China 92 MT (5.4%), Germany 92 MT (5.3%), Australia 79 MT (4.6%) and a dozen others with total uptake at 285 MT (16.7%)..
COCONUT WATER CONCENTRATES earned USD2.182 million and landed third. Quantity at 682 MT fell 7.7% from last year at 739 MT. Primary destination was the US at 357 MT (52.3%), followed by China at 182 MT (26.6%), Netherlands 60 MT (8.8%), Vietnam 38 MT (5.6%), and five others with total orders of 45 MT (6.7%).
In the fourth slot was HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL with revenue of USD1.931 million from contracts involving 1,281 MT. The shipment leaped by 465.3% from previous year at 227 MT. Just like in the top three products, the US also led in this commodity, responsible for 985 MT (76.8%), with Australia a far second at 130 MT (10.1%), trailed by United Kingdom 93 MT (7.2%) and four others which together held 74 MT (5.8%).
COCONUT MILK LIQUID was top five after concluding sales of 1,273 MT worth USD1.887 million. Volume was 36.6% short of last year at 2,006 MT. Malaysia remained a principal outlet with delivery of 677 MT (53.2%), tracked by China at 149 MT (11.7%), the US at 132 MT (10.4%), United Kingdom 112 MT (8.8%), Netherlands 107 MT (8.4%), and nine others which shared 96 MT (7.6%).
Occupying the sixth position was GLYCERIN with export proceeds of USD1.519 million from purchases of 1,543 MT, lagging by 43.2% from prior year at 2,716 MT. There were only four buyers during the month led by China at 791 MT (51.3%). Following behind were South Korea at 486 MT (31.4%), Japan 246 MT (15.9%) and Malaysia 21 MT (1.4%).
Seventh in rank COCONUT OIL, OTHER category, turned in USD1.502 million from orders of 377 MT, higher by 67.2% from last year at 226 MT. Top importer was the US at 219 MT (58.2%). Distance behind were Netherlands at 58 MT (15.3%), Sri Lanka 57 MT (15.2%), and three others with uptake at 42 MT (11.3%).
TOILET/BATH SOAP took the eighth spot generating USD1.147 million after trading 468 MT (465 MT last year). Indonesia was leading buyer at 104 MT (22.3%), followed by United Arab Emirates at 68 MT (14.5%), Thailand 50 MT (10.8%), Vietnam 47 MT (10.1%), Saudi Arabia 38 MT (8.2%), US 34 MT (7.3%), Japan 25 MT (5.3%), and 15 others responsible for 101 MT (21.6%).
Rating ninth was FATTY ACID DISTILLATES. Shipment this month at 1,417 MT hiked 29.8% from previous year at 1,091 MT and earned USD1.090 million. China was almost an exclusive importer at 1,258 MT (88.8%). Other markets were Pakistan at 140 MT (9.8%) and Malaysia at 19 MT (1.4%).
BIODIESEL was number 10 in the list having income of USD933,320 from orders of 461 MT (no export last year). There were only five destinations led by China at 193 MT (41.8%), tracked by Germany at 140 MT (30.4%), South Korea 67 MT (14.6%), Indonesia 46 MT (10.0%) and Japan 14 MT (3.1%).
Completing the top 15 non-traditional exports were Coconut Milk Powder, Coco Peat/Dust, Coir Products, Nata de Coco and Shampoo. Details in next week UCAP Weekly Bulletin.
