Philippine Export of Coconut Products Down in November 2022

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority show export of coconut products by the Philippines fell 14.4% in November from a similar month a year ago. Total was 157,940 MT in copra terms as against 184,523 MT last year. Gross export receipts likewise dropped to USD167.321million from USD247.923 million, a significant reduction by 32.5%.
All major exports posted year-on-year shortfalls in volume traded. Coconut oil at 83,685 MT declined 12.0% from 95,115 MT; copra meal at 10,713 MT slumped 71.3% from 37,374 MT; desiccated coconut at 11,531 MT contracted 29.8% from 16,415 MT; oleochemicals at 7,279 MT as copra fell 10.9% from 8,167 MT.
Performance of other products is shown following, MT: coco shell charcoal 9,010 (-26.8% from 12,310 last year), activated carbon 4,963 (-23.0% from 6,450), virgin coconut oil 2,155 (+12.2% from 1,920), coco water 12,959 (-63.4% from 35,407), fresh coconuts 62 (+967.3% from 6), Others 17,226 (-9.7% from 19,081).
Despite reduced shipment during the month, the second for the year after September, the cumulative figure for the 11-month period to November still showed positive results. Total which stood at 2,100,198 MT in copra terms leaped 33.1% from 1,578,182 MT at the same time last year. Turnover already crossed the USD3.000 billion-mark at USD3.034 billion, a record-breaker; last year data was USD2.247 billion (+35.0%).
Of the major exports, desiccated coconut and oleochemicals did not fare well from year-ago as shown in the products breakdown following, MT: coconut oil 1,132,668 (783,139 last year), copra meal 302,639 (287,784), desiccated coconut 143,872 (149,108), oleochemicals as copra 79,875 (104,572).
Other products performed as follows, MT: coco shell charcoal 105,420 (103,572 last year), activated carbon 74,473 (68,080), virgin coconut oil 24,611 (28,080), coco water 123,928 (48,736), fresh coconuts 227 (673), Others 227,132 (313,867).
