Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Export Up in January-October

Export of coconut kernel products by Sri Lanka in January-October 2022, based on Coconut Development Authority data, leaped sharply by 57% to Rs110,082.28 million (USD348.74 million) from Rs70,197.06 million (USD353.66 million) at the same time a year earlier.  The top five export earners collectively generated Rs88,321.81 million (USD279.80 million), a sharp rise by 47% from Rs60,161.16 million (USD303.09 million).  This included desiccated coconut, coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder and coconut cream.

Volume-wise, however, coconut milk was top with shipment of 44,285 MT during the period, slightly higher by 2% than prior year at 43,376 MT.  This was followed by desiccated coconut with delivery of 35,640 MT, an increase by 22% from 29,159 MT.  Coconut cream was third at 14,567 MT (down 7.7% from 15,788 MT), next was virgin coconut oil at 12,871 MT (+9% from 11,828 MT) and coconut milk powder at 7,226 MT (+21% from 5,985 MT).

For the month of October, the leading exports generated Rs8,611.54 million, exceeding by 18% prior year at Rs7,277.08 million. Volumes, however, declined from previous year excepting coconut milk powder.  Shipment of coconut milk was 4,113 MT (-12% from 4,674 year-ago), desiccated coconut was 3,795 MT (-8% from 4,141 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,146 MT (-11% from 1,290), coconut cream 1,004 MT (-54% from 2,198 MT), while coconut milk powder at 858 MT was +9% from 789 MT.
