Sri Lanka Coconut Kernel Products Export Up Sharply in September 2022

Export of coconut kernel products by Sri Lanka leaped 61% in January-September 2022 at Rs99,020.22 million (USD319.12 million) from Rs61,628.77 million (USD311.05 million) year-ago, data from the country’s Coconut Development Authority showed.  
The top five exports, namely desiccated coconut, coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder and coconut cream in that order, collectively generated Rs79,710.27 million (USD256.89 million), 52% higher than previous year at Rs52,884.08 million (USD266.88 million).  However, in terms of volume shipped, coconut milk led the pack at 40,172 MT (38,702 MT year-earlier), trailed by desiccated coconut at 31,845 MT (25,018 MT), coconut cream at 13,563 MT (13,590 MT), virgin coconut oil at 11,725 MT (10,538 MT), and coconut milk powder at 6,368 MT (5,196 MT).
For the month of September alone, the top five exports turned in Rs8,713.68 million, increasing 42% over prior year at Rs6,138.84 million, with desiccated coconut as top grosser, followed by coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut milk powder and coconut cream.  Volume-wise, the ranking varied with coconut milk taking the lead at 3,931 MT (4,156 MT), tracked by desiccated coconut at 3,543 MT (3,206 MT), coconut cream 1,285 MT (1,867 MT), virgin coconut oil 1,274 MT (1,359 MT), coconut milk powder 731 MT (513 MT).
