Export of Desiccated Coconut by World’s Major Exporters in 2023

Collated country data from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka by the International Coconut Community showed desiccated coconut exports by the three countries aggregated 282,559 MT for the period January-November 2023.  The figure hardly dropped from the same period a year earlier at 284,104 MT (-0.5%).

The decline came largely from Sri Lanka with export falling by 13.1% to 34,551 MT from 39,751 MT.  Shipment from the Philippines at 143,399 MT was little changed from year-ago at 143,871 MT (-0.3%).  By contrast, delivery from Indonesia posted an increase of 4.1% to 104,609 MT from 100,482 MT.  In terms of market share, the Philippines led at 50.7%, trailed by Indonesia at 36.2% and Sri Lanka at 13.1%.  The figures are average during the two-year period 2022/2023.

The value of exports altogether had dropped in 2023 with the Philippines recording the sharpest of 34.2% at USD227.619 million from USD345.762 million, followed by Sri Lanka at 24.9% at USD66.841 million from USD88.981 million, and Indonesia at 16.7% at USD115.382 million from USD138.467 million.

Calculated export prices showed in 2022, Philippine desiccated coconut was the highest at USD2,403.28/MT FOB, followed by Sri Lanka at USD2,238.46, and Indonesia at USD1,378.03.  In 2023, however, while respective prices dropped from 2022 level, Sri Lanka recorded the highest price at USD1,934.56/MT FOB, trailed by the Philippines at USD1,587.31, and Indonesia, which consistently had the lowest price, at USD1,102.98.
