External trade of coconut shell charcoal for the month of August reached 13,368 MT valued at USD7.476 million. The bulk of the month’s shipment (85.9%) or 11,485 MT went to China. The remaining 14.1% or 1,882 MT was shipped to Japan.
Activated carbon had more markets, numbering 23 during the month. Total export volume at 5,738 MT registered receipts of USD8.664 million. Japan was top market capturing 20.9% or 1,199 MT with China in the second spot at 917 MT (16.0%). Following behind were six countries that jointly accounted for 42.6% of the market namely South Korea at 534 MT, USA 491 MT, Taiwan 388 MT, Sri Lanka 371 MT, Indonesia 353 MT and Germany 306 MT.
Smaller loads ranging 135-219 MT went to Peru, Canada, South Africa, Congo and together was responsible for 11.7% of the market. On the other hand, limited orders ranging 2-95 MT were made by 11 other countries with a collective market share of 8.9%. This comprised of Italy, France, Australia, Estonia, Sweden, Russia, Belgium, Finland, Chile, Singapore, United Kingdom.

Overseas purchases of coco shell charcoal in July at 13,532 MT registered income of USD7.219 million. Bulk of the month’s shipment was delivered to China at 11,627 MT (85.9%). The other significant buyer was Japan at 1,856 MT (13.7%) while a residual 50 MT was equally split between Malaysia and Netherlands.
On the other hand, export of activated carbon in the same month amounting to 6,950 MT was valued USD10.939 million. Key markets were Japan and South Korea which respectively took in 1,412 MT (20.3%) and 1,234 MT (17.8%). Trailing behind were four countries with combined market share of 36.1% namely China at 737 MT, Sri Lanka at 725 MT, USA at 544 MT and Taiwan 502 MT.
Countries with imports under 500 MT (109-333 MT) together represented 19.7% of the market. This included Indonesia, Peru, Germany, Russia, Estonia, Ghana, Canada while limited loads under 100 MT (12-91 MT range) were delivered to nine countries namely Italy, Congo, Sweden, France, Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Singapore.

Export of coco shell charcoal in June totaled 13,847 MT earning USD7.611 million. Bulk of the month’s shipment (83.4%) or 11,554 MT was delivered to China. Japan also was a major importer taking in 2,270 MT (16.4%). A residual 23 MT went to South Korea.
On the other hand, foreign trade in activated carbon in the same month was 4,408 MT with turnover of USD6.198 million. China led the pack of 18 country buyers with uptake at 992 MT (22.5%), trailed by Japan at 598 MT (13.6%), USA at 525 MT (11.9%), South Korea at 428 MT (9.7%), Taiwan at 365 MT (8.3%), Sri Lanka at 299 MT (6.8%), Indonesia at 258 MT (5.9%), Germany at 234 MT (5.3%).
Ten other countries ordered limited volume ranging 3-68 MT and together comprised 16.1% of the market, namely Estonia, Italy, Australia, Russia, Venezuela, United Kingdom, France, Canada, Iraq, Singapore.
