Export Performance of Philippine Top Non-Tradtional Coconut Products in June

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed there were 18 non-traditional coconut products that registered earnings of over USD100,000 in the month of June this year, one product more than last month.  The top nine products registered turnovers of over USD1.000 million during the month, two products short of last month’s million-dollar earners. These products were coconut water, fatty acid distillates, toilet/bath soap, coconut water concentrates, glycerin, coconut oil other, virgin coconut oil, hydrogenated coconut oil, coconut milk powder. These products were also in the top 9 exports list last month in varying ranks.
COCONUT WATER was this month’s leading export as last month, having turned in USD10.282 million from trade of 11,737 MT.  Volume was 9.9% behind June last year at 13,025 MT.  The USA was primary destination cornering two-thirds of the pack (66.6%) or 7,822 MT, trailed by the United Kingdom at 2,347 MT (20.0%).  Other destinations were Canada at 935 MT (8.0%), China 215 MT, Netherlands 191 MT, and eight others with uptake ranging 1-84 MT namely Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, France, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Australia.
Second major export was FATTY ACID DISTILLATES with revenue of USD3.797 million from shipment of 4,588 MT, which rocketed by 378.2% from only 959 MT a year ago.  China was almost an exclusive market responsible for 91.8% or 4,210 MT.  Other markets were India at 222 MT (4.8%) and South Korea with 156 MT (3.4%).
In the third place was TOILET & BATH SOAP with earnings of USD2.550 million after selling 786 MT, a volume higher by 18.1% compared to last year at 666 MT.  Key outlets were United Arab Emirate with uptake at 205 MT (26.1%), Indonesia at 160 MT (20.4%) and Singapore at 113 MT (14.4%).  Other importing countries were Nigeria at 94 MT (11.9%), Thailand 58 MT (7.3%), Vietnam 38 MT (4.9%), Saudi Arabia 24 MT, Malaysia 20 MT, Kuwait 19 MT and a dozen others with limited orders ranging 0.16-15 MT.  The latter group consisted of Japan, Qatar, United Kingdom, Australia, Taiwan, New Zealand, Netherlands, Canada, Papua New Guinea, American Samoa, USA, Fiji.
Another coconut water variant, COCONUT WATER CONCENTRATE, made it to top four with gross export receipts of USD2.344 million, the value of 583 MT delivery. There was no export in the same month last year.  China handled bulk of the business at 492 MT (84.3%).  The balance went to Thailand at 72 MT (12.3%), Indonesia at 18 MT (3.2%) and a residual 1 MT to Peru.
Occupying the fifth slot was GLYCERIN with total products sold at 2,439 MT costing USD2.340 million.  This month’s purchases leaped 43.2% from 1,704 MT of the previous year. China took the lead at 1,386 MT (56.8%), trailed by Japan at 807 MT (33.1%), Malaysia at 128 MT (5.2%), Canada at 86 MT (3.5%) and South Korea at 32 MT.
COCONUT OIL, Other category ranked sixth with income of USD2.292 million from orders of 945 MT.  This month’s load recorded a shortfall of 9.5% from 1,044 MT last year. Principal destination was the USA at 261 MT (27.6%), followed by Indonesia at 190 MT  (20.1%), China at 116 MT (12.3%), Mexico at 79 MT (8.3%), Canada at 66 MT (7.0%), United Kingdom at 63 MT (6.7%), Japan 33 MT (3.4%), Lithuania at 22 MT (2.3%), Dominican Republic 20 MT, and eight others which took in limited loads ranging 4-17 MT namely New Zealand, France, Brazil, Australia, Taiwan, Singapore, South Africa, Malaysia.   
VIRGIN COCONUT OIL was top seven. Shipment at 696 MT contracted 76.3% from last year at 2,932 MT and was worth USD1.800 million.  The USA was topmost destination at 341 MT (49.0%), tracked by China at 129 MT (18.5%), Netherlands 102 MT (14.6%).  Smaller loads went to Brazil at 58 MT (8.3%), Germany 36 MT (5.2%), Italy 20 MT (2.9%), Australia 8 MT, and Israel 2 MT.
The eighth spot was taken by HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL which turned in USD1.794 million from sales of 1,630 MT, a reduction from last year at 2,212 MT by 26.3%.  The Netherlands was market leader at 490 MT (30.1%), followed by USA at 323 MT (19.8%), Australia at 272 MT (16.7%), China at 186 MT (11.4%), South Korea at 165 MT (10.1%), Taiwan at 122 MT (7.5%).  Limited orders were made by Canada at 44 MT, United Kingdom 23 MT and Japan 6 MT.
COCONUT MILK POWDER generated USD1.283 million to stay in the ninth position.  Volume traded at 571 MT jumped 218.6% from 179 MT of the preceding year.  The USA was top importer at 243 MT (42.6%).  Following behind were China at 142 MT (24.8%), Japan at 91 MT (15.9%), Mexico at 46 MT (8.1%), South Korea 23 MT (4.0%), and Italy and France at 13 MT apiece.
Completing the top 10 non-traditional products export was COCO MEAT CHIPS which contributed USD945,946 to total income.  Total products sold at 406 MT dropped 44.6% from 733 MT a year ago.  The USA was almost a sole importer at 367 MT (90.4%).  Other buyers were South Korea at 13 MT, Vietnam at 13 MT, Saudi Arabia at 11 MT and Netherlands at 3 MT.
The next eight leading exports were Coconut Milk Liquid, Nata de Coco, Biodiesel, Makapuno, Coconut Acid Oil, Coco Peat/Dust, Coco Flour, Coir & Coir Products.  Details to follow in next week’s UWB issue.
