US Import of Lauric Oils Down in September

Data from Oil World revealed the US imported 74,100 MT of lauric oils in September.  This is a 6.3% drop from the September last year at 79,100 MT.  The decline was on account of reduced uptake of palm kernel oil.  Coconut oil accounted for 64.0% of total import or 47,400 MT which was a 25.4% increase from 37,800 MT a year ago. Palm kernel oil at 26,700 MT comprised the remaining 36.0%.  The figure posted a 35.4% shortfall from last year at 41,300 MT
In the three-month period to September, the Philippines was a leading supplier of lauric oils to the US.  For this month, it was responsible for 51.1% of lauric oils total with shipment of 37,900 MT (18,300 MT last year) of coconut oil.   Indonesia accounted for 38.6% or 28,600 MT (56,300 MT) which was a mix of 6,500 MT (16,300 MT) coconut oil and 22,100 MT (40,000 MT) palm kernel oil.
Shipment from Malaysia at 4,400 MT (2,500 MT) which comprised 5.9% was made up of nil (2,100 MT) coconut oil and 4,400 MT (400 MT) palm kernel oil.  Deliveries from other countries at 3,200 MT (2,000 MT) contributed 4.3%.  This consisted of 3,000 MT (1,100 MT) coconut oil and 200 MT (900 MT) palm kernel oil.
January-September imports reached 655,200 MT, topping by 14.9% same period last year total at 570,200 MT.  Of this total, coconut oil was 375,700 MT (324,700 MT) of which 316,500 MT (214,200 MT) or 84.2% came from the Philippines.  Palm kernel oil was 279,500 MT (245,500 MT) of which 237,700 MT (215,900 MT) or 85.0% originated from Indonesia.
