PSA Data: Philippine Export of Coconut Products Up in September

Official data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) revealed the Philippine export of coconut products in September was 225,272 MT in copra terms, an appreciable rise from same month a year earlier at 151,433 MT.  Gross export receipts rose more sharply by 76.2% to USD251.787 million from USD142.934 million driven by coconut oil, which revenue more than doubled.
The major exports, excepting copra meal, posted double-digit year-on-year increases in volume traded led by coconut oil.  Export of coconut oil leaped 57.2% to 122,588 MT from 77,995 MT, desiccated coconut climbed 10.6% to 15,919 MT from 14,389 MT, oleochemicals hiked 12.9% to 6,077 MT as copra from 5,385 MT.  By contrast, copra meal fell 22.5% to 21,070 MT from 27,176 MT.
Other products’ performance follows, in MT:  coco shell charcoal 11,112 (-4.2% from 11,603 year-ago), activated carbon 5,106 (-7.9% from 5,543), virgin coconut oil 209 (-93.2% from 3,071), coco water 14,621 (nil), fresh coconuts 4 (+31.2% from 3), others 16,020 (-26.0% from 21,663).
Exports for the nine-month period to September accumulated to 2,119,124 MT in copra terms, a marked increased by 37.8% from 1,537,824 MT at the same time last year. Corresponding revenue topped the USD2.0 billion mark at USD2.028 billion, boosting last year at USD1.453 billion by 39.5%.
Breakdown of shipmen follows, MT: coconut oil 1,176,971 (823,157 year-ago), copra meal 266,969 (222,202), desiccated coconut 130,868 (116,654), oleochemicals as copra 48,584 (50,869); Coco shell charcoal 100,290 (85,589), activated carbon 42,752 (46,193), virgin coconut oil 4,579 (21,415), coco water 82,830 (49,960), fresh coconuts 106 (163), Others 162,932 (147,027).
