Export Performance of Philippine Top Non-Traditional Coconut Products in November 2024

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed there were 19 non-traditional coconut products that sold over USD100,000 in the month of November 2024, one product more than the previous month’s 18.  The million-dollar earners likewise increased to nine from the prior month’s eight.  These included coconut water, hydrogenated coconut oil, toilet/bath soap, coconut water concentrates, glycerin, dried mature coconut meat other than desiccated coconut, coconut milk liquid, biodiesel, coconut oil other.    


COCONUT WATER secured its top position for the sixth straight month in November as it turned in USD11.289 million from sales of 13,225 MT.  The volume increased significantly by 42.8% from 9,262 MT in the same month a year ago.  The USA likewise maintained its leading position in the market with uptake at 9,331 MT accounting for 70.6% of total.  Following behind were United Kingdom at 3,293 MT (24.9%), Canada at 174 MT (1.3%), France at 116 MT (0.9%), Netherlands at 111 MT (0.8%), and six others which held volume under 100 MT (2-83 MT range).  The latter group consisted of Hong Kong, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Taiwan, Australia.


HYDROGENATED COCONUT OIL was second biggest non-traditional export in November with turnover of USD3.747 million after trading 3,592 MT. The shipment hiked 23.7% from 2,904 MT of the previous year.  The USA continued to lead in this sector responsible for 1,394 MT (38.8%), trailed by Australia at 993 MT (27.6%), Canada at 529 MT (14.7%), Netherlands at 483 MT (13.4%).  These four countries maintained their respective rankings from last month.  Other destinations were United Kingdom at 91 MT, China at 70 MT, Japan at 18 MT, Taiwan at 8 MT and Hong Kong at 6 MT. 


Holding the third position was TOILET/BATH SOAP which generated USD2.408 million after selling 581 MT, almost twice last year at 303 MT (+91.6%).  Indonesia was the market leader which bought 341 MT (58.7%).  Other importers were United Arab Emirates at 72 MT (12.5%), Singapore at 33 MT (5.6%), Saudi Arabia at 29 MT (5.0%), Oman at 21 MT (3.6%), Malaysia at 20 MT (3.5%), Thailand at 20 MT (3.4%), Vietnam at 19 MT (3.2%), USA at 14 MT (2.4%) and 14 others with much lower purchases ranging 0.11-4 MT namely Kuwait, Australia, Qatar, Netherlands, New Zealand, Macau, Congo, Papua New Guinea, American Samoa, Nigeria, Canada, Virgin Islands, Japan, Guam.


The other variant of coconut water, the COCONUT WATER CONCENTRATE held the fourth spot, with export proceeds of USD2.073 million from overseas orders of 556 MT.  The total climbed 9.7% from 507 MT last year.  China remained a principal importer, as last month, responsible for 291 MT (52.3%), followed by Brazil at 118 MT (21.3%), USA 71 MT (12.8%), Thailand at 52 MT (9.3%), and Netherlands at 24 MT (4.3%). 


In the fifth place was GLYCERIN with earnings of USD1.842 million.  Delivery at 2,326 MT jumped 40.5% from prior year at 1,656 MT.  China and Japan kept their respective positions as major importers with China taking the lead at 1,473 MT (63.3%) trailed by Japan 698 MT (30.0%).  Other markets were South Korea at 65 MT (2.8%), Canada at 42 MT (1.8%), Malaysia at 26 MT (1.1%) and USA at 23 MT (1.0%). 


For the first time, DRIED MATURE COCONUT MEAT (in chips, ground, grated or sliced, other than desiccated coconut) made it to the top non-traditional coconut products export list.  Holding the sixth position, volume at 1,138 MT (no export last year) was worth USD1.347 million.  All shipment went to China.


COCONUT MILK LIQUID registered income of USD1.217 million and placed seventh.   Overseas purchases at 960 MT recorded a shortfall of 6.3% from the prior year at 1,025 MT.  Malaysia fortified its leading position with this month’s uptake at 711 MT representing 74.1% of total shipment.  The remainder was shared among United Kingdom at 139 MT (14.5%), China at 98 MT (10.3%), and France at 10 MT (1.1%).


The eighth slot was held by BIODIESEL with export proceeds of USD1.205 million.  This month’s delivery at 573 MT was a marked improvement by 55.9% from last year at 368 MT.  South Korea led the pack with orders amounting to 418 MT (72.9%), followed by Japan at 132 MT (23.0%), with the residual 24 MT (4.1%) going to Netherlands.
COCONUT OIL, OTHER category held the ninth spot having turned in USD1.023 million from external trade reaching 373 MT, boosting last year at 282 MT by 32.1%.  The North America was key market with the USA capturing 101 MT (27.0%) and Canada 75 MT (20.2%).  Other markets were Japan at 58 MT (15.7%), Australia at 48 MT (12.9%), Malaysia 40 MT (10.8%), Indonesia at 21 MT (5.7%), Germany at 19 MT (5.1%), and Hong Kong at 10 MT (2.6%).


COCONUT MILK POWDER completes the top 10 non-traditional coconut products exports in November.  Foreign exchange receipts at USD777,098 came from orders of 146 MT, an appreciable rise by 46.8% from 99 MT year-before.  Mexico was principal destination at 46 MT (31.6%), tracked by Spain at 41 MT (28.3%), USA at 24 MT (16.5%), Italy at 14 MT (9.4%), Argentina at 12 MT (8.3%) and Japan at 8 MT (5.8%).


The next nine major non-traditional coconut products exports were Virgin Coconut Oil, Coco Meat Chips, Fatty Acid Distillates, Coconut Acid Oil, Coco Peat/Dust.
